Heater not so warm!

Post  SUZUKI ROCKS on Wed Feb 09, 2011 10:42 am

Ok feel stupid asking but... Can a car loose its heating power Embarassed

The air coming out my heater lately isnt as warm as i remember! Is this common for old cars or am a imagaining it? Would a nw heater matrix help? Dont even know what a heater matrix is but i've hear of them.

Thanks Very Happy

there is a small radiator in the interior (i think that's the heater matrix), engine coolant runs through it, the blower blows air through the small radiator = you get hot air, so maybe it's clogged up, or you are imagining it Smile

did you bleed the system proper when you put the coolant back in?
could be an airlock

a good way to make sure there is no air in the system is to run the car after filling the radiators with the radiator cap of. let the car warm up and ensure the thermostat has opened, the header tank should then drain as the thermostat opens and alows water to flow further into the engine, then allow to run longer to ensure all air has bubbled through. do this with the heater on so water flows through the heater core.
are you sure the slide on the dash is connected to the water tap? or that the water tap allowing water into the heater core is working. No idea where it is in a swift as being Australian I never needed the heater!

best to attend the cooling system sooner rather than later, an air lock in the system will reduce its efficiency and can lead to overheating.
just stsrt car with radiator cap off and top up as necessary, should take 5 minutes or so after warm.
I know about rust. I have this!
