A 1.0 shell is the hardest to convert to fit the DOHC engine. All the engine mounts are in different places. Far easier to do if you use a 1.3 SOHC shell, but if you have the time and some welding expertise it can be done...

its not too bad to convert a 3 cyl. the engine is located differently in the engine bay but the gti mounts allow for most of the difference. i put a gti in my 96 1.0 gls and it wasn't too tricky. if you use a mark 2 phase 2 engine it will go in with no wiring mods. the gti mounts all bot up apart from the mount on the gearbox at the front which needs to be moved forward about an inch. new holes need to be drilled to hold the bracket and for the centre bolt. the thread on mine was already behind the panel so once the skin is pierced their is a solid mounting point. get a cheep gti as a doner car and you'll have no problems.
