ball joints/ reverse intake
anyone know where to get the inserts for the arms?
i got some from srd with an order many moons ago but i aint going to them again
anyway i had a clearout in the garage found some fairly new front arms with knackered joints
whilst i was cutting the old ones out i got thinking about extending the arms to add a bit more camber into them, they dont go off square to the chassis so it will give a slight more castor aswell
http://www.flickr.com/photos/11473969@N02/6070428272/in/photostream
its a tophat profile so it wont be hard to do, i think i`l add a bit to the bottom for a bit more strength, whilst im at it, iv got to work out all of the messurements yet, but if iv got to start adding to much on the length to get say 1deg then theres not much point, plus theres the dshafts to think of
also found an old gti inlet mani so i might have a bash at reversing that aswell

Re: ball joints/ reverse intake
thats what i thought, free camber
, even if they are a bit out each side, you can adjust with the top mounts
the reverse inlet mani is defo on, i thought it wouldv taken a couple of go`s to get the cuts right but i got it spot on
got to weld it up yet, il put some pics up when its done, i might even do an exchange service if anyone wants one done

about 1 minute easier and lots of hot air going into your new fancy air filter

Re: ball joints/ reverse intake
my filter is where the fog light was so no worrys there, exept wiv a huge puddle
a few weeks ago on your turbo thread jesse, instantcustard sugested i do it
i found an old inlet in the garage sort out at the weekend, lookin at it properly i was in 2 minds about doin it, thats why i thought it was gona take a couple of attempts
it would be alot easyer to reverse a cultus mani btw, coz both ends are factory welded on so it would be the case of cut swap and weld, but the gti was a bit more technical
the only downside is i had to loose the vacume tube for the fpr, but theres a spare on the back of the mani, and i had to loose one of the fixings for the evap solenoid but i think i can cut it off and weld it back in place, the only problem would be the tps/throtle cable getting in the way so i might move the evap along a bit
im gona weld it up tomorow, i know they`r cast but i havnt found any bubbles in the cast where i cut it so i rekon it`l be fine
exchange service will be you send me one, if iv got one done already youl get it quickly, duno prices yet once iv welded and polished this one il have more of an idea
and as for me not turboing, well, never say never
exept for a track car, no way, to much heat for my liking

Re: ball joints/ reverse intake
just to add, i rekon about 20mm will give me 1.5 deg on the front arms, so im gona do them aswell
also thinking of doing the rear aswell or the swift will have a wider track at the front, but iv gota find a spare set of them to mess about with before i can do that
anyone got a ruined set i can play with?
im gona completly modify the rear susp turrets on my new shell so i`l be able to adjust the camber from there, but thats a long way off yet

Re: ball joints/ reverse intake
i had to loose the fpr vacume tube, but there is a spare on the rear
the brake booster and idle valve (blue thing) tubes are still there but on the other side, you will have to watch it with the booster hose coz its got a non return valve on it so it will have to stay on there somehow
the bolthole for the small bent bracket going from the block to mani is on the other side aswell so i doubt you will be able to use that, just make sure your using both brackets on the rear
only one bracket to bolt the evap valve on (brown thing on the back)
the top tube that conects to the cold start valve and the idle valve will have to be cut just after the cold start coz theres no fixing for it on the other end and you will prob want to move the idle valve to the other end anyway
the only problem i can see is with the throtle cable bracket
you could always fit the t/b upsidedown so its still on the fronside but then the water hoses will be stuck up
im sure its better to put a sr20 t/b upsidedown on a std gti mani so i guess it would be perfect on this mani
