standalone ECU help

so i ve been tryin to find a gti or parts for my justy conversion, loom, ecu etc
rang round locally and been watching the scrapping channel for ages, i cant find anything even tho i dont really want to scrape bits together from too many places because im out of my depth on this project and costs could spiral
anyway i thought if i get standalone management can i leave my justys wiring pretty much intact?
whats involved? please help

well basically you'll have to make a custom loom for the standalone you're getting and the justy's loom might need modifications too, then the programming costs and standalone's aren't cheep

I've got an extra GTi engine loom, PM me if interested.
There's ECU's available on here all the time for around £30.
Pretty certain you can get everything you need on here pretty quickly for the fraction of the cost of a standalone ECU.

OK, you will need mk3 Gti wiring loom. If you get this, you can run std dashboard off Justy.
If you can't get hold of 95-96 Gti, You will need to get hold of either mk2 Gti dashboards(including speedo cluster) and steering column switch gear. This way, you can fit swap everything together.

I have mk2 Gti full looms with ECU but not mk3 so you have to get hold of what I said earlier.
There are so many of them getting broken so keep eye on ebay.

If you can't wait, let me know as I know someone with most of the parts you will need(including dashboard).

yeah expensive for standalone. Got the idea after thinking about a mk2 loom and all the little things that must be different and
i have a partial loom with all the sensor plugs on. Doesnt make sense tho.

If I use mk2 its the relays and fuses that im unsure of, do these need changing too?
how much of the dash will i need?

you can get megasquirt cheap as chips

how much? needs a map and might be too complicated for me

Hi,

MS can be bought for £200 or so but you have to assemble it yourself or spend £300 fully assembled.
You will still need to make your wiring loom to suit MS. You can get NA, Super charger as well as turbo charged maps off teamswift.

can i just leave 8v engine bay wires hanging lol then piggyback the MS?

MS is supposed to be a standalone unit.
You would have to design your own loom to make it work, you can splice into some of the existing loom and use that but for what it's worth, you'd be better just doing the lot.
Not the easiest way but it is cheap and will do a whole lot more than a standard ECU as it is far more tuneable.

Feels like I have two deep ends to choose from, still got alot to learn. Gonna read about MS but it sounds good now.

you can get megasquirt for under 200 easy man, its simple to wire up, swift gti only has a few sensors aswell so its nothing major

na i pussyed out last week on one on ebay, keep changing my mind what im doing haha
