GTi gearing

Post  chall on Sun Sep 04, 2011 10:15 pm

so i just got my wee gti yesterday and have a question about it. It doesnt seem overly nippy. now i dont if its because ive come from a 300bhp pulsar or has the gearbox been replaced with a 1.0 effort? Shocked

when i'm in 5th gear sitting at 60mph its sitting at 2.5k revs. Is that normal? in my experience with most hot hatches etc your normally sitting at 3k rpm?

hopefully its my imagination and will just get used to it.

Sounds dodgy. I think someone has fitted a regular SOHC box to your GTi.
A GTi with factory 175/60 14" rims should do 19mph per 1000rpm in 5th...
Just short of 3000 rpm at 60mph

I'm running 195/45-15 on it but wouldn't think that'd make a difference. Can someone go drive theirs and tell me please??

My swift has 195/50/15s on and reads within 0.5mph accurate so can't see 45s being much out.

With 195/45/15 tyres you should be doing 18mph per 1000 rpms in 5th (GTi gearing) so it should be a tad over 3000 rpm at 60mph. Why don't you use kph?

Check to see if it has the extra lug on the case that only GTi cases have.
Search teamswift.net as there is a thread there about it.
