Oil spec

Post  chall on Mon Sep 19, 2011 8:03 pm

I did a search and strangely found nothing.

Going to do an oil change on my GTi tomorrow to get rid of the run-in mineral oil that's in it.

What's people's opinions on what oil to use on a rebuilt engine?

im using 15-40 semi atm i think.
comma resonably cheap. theres a reason why.
i got told it shouldnt have all the minerals and stuff that castrol and such like have, so its ideal for an engine thats still bedding in as it will still wear slighty. and got told high quality oils could glaze the bores.

just my 2 cents

Funny you say that., I have a leak from my rocker cover gasket and I topped up this morning with mobil1 0-30 that I had in the shed and it did not like it., noticed some blue smoke in my mirror on my way to and from work! hence why I'm wanting to change tomorrow

buy a rocker cover gasket off ebay, alot cheaper than my local motor factors, its ok quality aswell, 3days delivery.
i think the blueprint gaskets better but they dont make them anymore, or sumthing.
