Hello

Post  expatkiwi on Tue Oct 04, 2011 4:21 pm

My name is Brian and I will be honest and I have been tempted here due to spammers on another site.
As per the log in name I am an expat kiwi and have been in the Uk for 10+ years.
I have been involved in rallying for as long as I can remember and about 3 months ago I purchased the ex Steve Colville, Mark Carrow (to name just a couple of previous owners) Mk1 gti.
It has a Bill Falconer engine and the usual goodies such as lsd, bilstien and I have just treated it to new seats, belts, extinguishers, flaps, arches etc. First rally will be the Longmoor Loco on 28th December.
I will get some pics up as soon as I can get it out of the garage as my other toy is in the way for now
Cheers
Brian

Cheers peeps.
Yes the car was until today white and red. I have started to remove the vynal wrap that graced the car. I wish I had left it alone. The previous owner put it on the car and said all was good underneath. RUBBISH. The front of the car is multi coloured which means they did know it had been in a crash. I don't care either way, I just prefer people to be honest. I removed the big Suzuki sticker off the windscreen. That was hiding about 6 cracks in the screen.
So now I have to cosmeticly patch the car up for the rally at the end of the year and one in January. Then its panel and paint time.
All the same Neville my codriver and I will no doubt be screaming like girls when we go out for the first time in the car.
Cheers
Brian

The original colours were blue rear yellow front. I am thinking of just yellow for ease of touching up again after a rally.
Also I need a front mk1 screen

Update time
I will get some pics up soon I promise. I still have another car in the garage which is in the way and soon to be going to the scrap man.
However the new motordrive seats, 6 point harnesses and wheel arch extensions are on. All the white laminate that covered the car has now been removed to show some horrible stuff. Starting to sand it this week for painting back into the origional colours as in the pic a couple of posts above. The 4ltr extinguisher is still to go in but I might pull the seats etc again and give the inside a coat of yellow just to tidy it up.
Time is ticking away faster than I need.
Looking forward to a weekend off to go to Wales Rally GB in a couple of weeks. Now I just have to find a dirty welsh girl(or a clean one) to have some drinks with on the saturday night.lol

Just down the road in Frimley if you ever need any help with anything.
Don't know if it's your sort of thing or not but Farnborough Motor Club do rallies, sprints, autotests etc.
I haven't taken part in anything yet, still building my car, but I've been to an event with a friend and it got me very interested straight away!

Thanks for the offer Very Happy
I have been a member of FDMC for about 10 yeras now doing a lot of sprinting in my Mazda rx7 which was sold to fund the infamous rotary westfield(fast in a straight line but scared the poo out of me round corners. Yes I did have a little wee at one event in the car). Thats now gone to get back to simplicity with the swift.
Which event did you go to

The Bordon Solo in September, gonna get involved once the cars built.
I went with Graham Skeggs and his son, his son Andrew is helping me build the Swift GTi powered Mini I'm in the middle of.
