70th Anniversary Edition Saloon

Bought this car locally today, borrowed a trailer and got it home.
H reg in Black, 80k, been stood 10 years.
At first i was only looking for parts to go on my Justy, brakes etc.
It really doesn't look too bad underneath, sills and the front
crossmember are a bit rotten.
Some bad points it has a broken windscreen (buiders on the house roof)
no lacquer on the roof, engine is mixing oil and water (pinholing? apparently)
Good stuff: Heated seats, 14" gold multispokes, A/C, 1 Owner.
Anyway its too special to break for bits and i have a gti engine i wanted to put in
the Justy, does anyone know if the gti engine will fit the saloon? or should i be looking for
a 1.6 like the original?

Your G13B engine will go in but you will need to change a fuel pump, ECU and wiring harness.
I know a guy with G16 AWD engines so if you want to keep it original with 1600cc let me know.
I will let you know his number.
He has also Justy Gti for sale and he would love to have Swift Gti AWD instead.
So may be you can do swap with him, may be!?

I can't break this car or swap it, Ill keep my justy standard as a daily for now and this is the new project.
Does anyone know on what year cars can pass MOT on carbs ?

if you brake it i want first dibs on the drive front drive shafts and poss hubs

Any, its the cat that needs to be fitted after 92, even then thats debatable on some cars

I bought this car without really looking at it, had to snap it up, because i wanted the driveshafts, hubs, brakes and stuff.
Its in better condition than i thought so it is going to get sorted, nothing for sale here.
The 1.6 has alot of torque, could a gti engine on carbs be better?

If your going with torque I would stick with the g16
If your stuck for an engine you could always mod a vitara 16v engine to fit, they are basicly the same, prob different sump, intake mani
It would give you the scope for changing to inj at a later date

Cleaned away years of moss and lichen yesterday, it was too dark to take a before shot.
I want to use the G13B because its what i have, a turbo will sort the torque out.

Will a mk2 ph2 loom fit my dash and lights?

Don't know about the dash and lights question I'm afraid, but I do like your 70th Anniversary. I used to have one a few years back - that and another 4wd swift. I'd love another so if you are interested I would happily be first in the queue to take her off your hands.

Got a new battery for the justy, swaped the other onto the saloon and found it has central locking.

Soon i ll be building a garage, in the back of a big builders lock-up. Just need to do a dividing wall
which is partly done and cut a hole for the door. When iv got somewhere dry to work i can do something,
Thinking about first cleaning out the tank, but does anyone think that after so many years without running the car will need new fuel lines or pump etc?

Definitely decided on a G16b for this now

There's always a queue - but most want to break them! Nooooooo!

I only really ever drove the normal 4wd swift, the 70th stood for a long time under my ownership essentially becoming a spares car to keep the other 4wd swift on the road. The 70th is a far higher spec, but is missing the bodykit which is actually quite a good looking addition. If you want to know the whole spec, I did actually try and capture what info I could before all the sites went down a couple of years ago in order to save the info (you've probably found that very little is about):

Anyway: if you do a search on the forums listed under authors: "redzuki", "madzuki" or "4x4redman" you should find quite a few posts/info about these cracking little cars.

Re: handling - the standard wheels/tyres are very narrow so to improve the handling in one fail swoop (or hinder it for snow/ice driving) just get a set of wider aftermarket alloys and good tyres. I can't remember what size I ran off the top of my head, but when I'm back up in Chester next week I'll have a look in the garage and check if you want (I kept my old set and a bodykit for my next 4wd swift - if I ever get my hands on one again!). If you do go this route just make sure the alloys are the same weight, better still lighter, than the current wheels on the car. I had a set of Kumho's on mine - pretty good in the dry, not such great traction in the wet, but predictable.

Re: the fuel tank. I'd just let the fuel filter do its job for the first few runs, and then change it (get all the crud into the old one before the change if you understand). That said they are, I think, between £5-£10 so do whatever. Ebay.de is probably your best bet, but try Suzuki themselves (they were not great when I did this job, getting the wrong filter etc). It's a real easy job - the filter is toward the rear of the LHS sill tucked up within a body recess. It is a translucent misty white colour plastic jobby. To be on the safe side I'd fill the tank right up before the first run so as to reduce the density of any solids in the fuel/rust suspension just to help the tank cleansing process (thinking of the fuel lines like you say).

The G16b head is said to "flow" more than the G13b head, so the internet searches tell me (not wanting to start that debate here). However, the bottom end is cast in the G16b, wherease (correct me if I'm wrong chaps) the G13b is all forged. This is a whole other discussion thread - you can get loads of info on this topic by searching all the forums. For the time being sticking with the G16b is a sound idea.
