Hi Folks
Just found the site...
I see several of the 16 valve mini folks are here too !
Currently modifying a G13b engined round nose mini which we built a year or so ago
adding an Eaton Supercharger with 18.5 psi boost... probably a month away from being back on the road..
based in the West Midlands..

Not many pics of the new setup as the new engine is not yet in..
but this shows the approximate position the supercharger is to be mounted
I'll be taking some pics as we assemble it over the next few weeks..
and they'll all be going in the build diary over on the 16vminiclub site

Stourbridge but I didn't know Shrewsbury was in the West Midlands ? seems more like North Midlands from here

the new engine is a MKII with new bearings, pistons, ARP bolts, 'O' ringed block etc. It will be going in with a Swift gearbox but with the plan to change to a Vauxhall one in the winter..

Its an Eaton M45 off a Bini.. 0.75 litres per revolution.. giving about 18.5 psi of boost
difficult to calculate the power exactly, but it should be getting close to 200bhp
will be limiting the engine to 7,500 rpm
Changing the sills on the mini at the moment.. (not very exciting but easier while the engine is out)

Hey Chris,
We meet everywhere!
My car parts are getting kicked out of girls Wendy house so I have to build an extension to back of it to store!
You should make a kit for supercharger! I have a dib in first one!
I'm thinking of making turbo manifold but again not much spave in front of our Minis.....
. Then again, I have to get my Mini with NA finished first!
Cheers

That's a thought !
something i could do while looking for a new job !
a kit that fits Minis would have the charger above the inlet manifold
but a swift one might have the charger below it or at the front and use the original manifold?

Re: Hi Folks
wouldnt a centrifugal charger be easyer to fit?
i know it wont produce the sort of power that badboy would, but it cant be that much difference surely

Three reasons,
1) the Eaton M45's are cheap as many Bini owners have uprated theirs and the originals find their way onto ebay etc.
2) I'm more into the challenge/fun of doing something different.. as in fitting the G13b into the mini in the first place.. it would have been easier to go out and buy a performace car !
3) The Eaton is a positive displacement charger which should give the most even smooth power delivery of any forced induction system.. actually a centrifugal charger would probably give more power as the roots type are less efficient...

Re: Hi Folks
fair enough mate, i can understand the merits of a good challenge
iv just been doin a bit of reading on this subject, apparenlty centrifugal schargers are the most efficient of all forced induction
so why isnt everyone else doin it?

Hi mate
I just had to ask, what vauxhall gearbox are you planning to put on the G13B and what are the advantages. I'm hoping its something stronger and more reliable than the original!

I'm not 100% sure thats correct, I was under the impression that a turbo would give more power than even a centrifugal charger and was more efficient.
centrigugal charger have less lag than turbos... and are slightly less efficient.
Positive displacement chargers will give the power throughout the rev range. with virtualy no lag, but are the least efficient.
but I guess one reason would be that turbos are easier to fit than superchargers. No need to line everything up, and no belts to worry about...

Several people have suggested a F13 box from a Corsa
I understand (from what people tell me) that its
a) cheaper
b) stronger
c) much cheaper to fit an LSD
and can be fairly easily fitted to a G13b
driveshafts and engine mountings are different, but we have to make those for a mini anyway.

Re: Hi Folks
the way they were explaining it on the site was that its the most efficiant overall
size, lag, heat generated etc
i know some people use g13b in corsas for stage rally cars using the corsa gbox
i know they are defo stronger that a gti box, the same syncros are used in all of the 2wd swifts, im not to sure on the 4wd boxes
i rebuilt mine using 1st, 2nd gear, all of the syncros, 4.4 cwp from a 3cyl box and a gripper diff
being a euro car good aftermarket parts are readily available for the f box, i dont know if a diff would be cheaper but there will be alot of different brands for it, and prob a fair few 2ndhand floating about aswell
