Driveshafts & CV Joints

Post  ADAM on Mon Feb 22, 2010 5:09 pm

Right, just getting everything together to do my engine swap from a GS to a GTI. I decided to do a full service type thing on it so have ordered a cambelt kit, auxillary belts, fuel filter, oil filter, manifold gasket, waterpump, cv boots and i also needed a inner cv joint. However the person im getting the parts from cant get a inner cv joint from anywhere is this normal are they that rare?

So my question (sorry thought i would fill you all in on whats happening) would my GS inner cv joint be able to go onto the GTI drive shaft. I know the outer joint has more slpines on GTI than the GS and that the Inner shafts should match up on the GTI and the GS. Am i right?

Also are the GTI drive shafts and cv joints stronger than the GS ones?

Cheers

As far as i know, even Suzuki dont sell the inner cv joints on there own! You have to buy a complete new drive shaft which comes with both inner and outer cv joints fitted. Sounds great to have a whole new shiny unit but it costs around £300 Shocked

The outer joints are pretty easy to find though.

Yer my mechanic geezer was saying that he couldnt get any, checked ebay but only outer ones are on there.

Do you know whether A: the inner cv joint off of the GS will fit to the GTI shaft
and
B: whether or not the GTI CV Joint will be stonger or not.

I am pretty sure that the 8v shaft diameter is smaller than the GTi shaft, so the 8v spline would be to small to fit the GTi CV.

i have a middle half shaft spare if you get stuck for one

I got an inner joint last week, sold separate, brand new.
Cost me €80...seems alot harder to put on compared to the outer as u have to assemble this 1st before putting on as it comes in 3 or 4 pieces.
Will let y'all no how it goes!
