My Swift Conversion, GS to GTI

Post  ADAM on Tue Jul 20, 2010 8:23 pm

Hi all, as some of you already know, i started a conversion from a 1992 Mk2 Phase 2 GS to a GTI using a 1992 Mk2 Phase 2 GTI as a doner car. Both white fortunately.

The GS was my bro's first car and then my first car when he bought a black GTI.

I then bought a 2006 Navara Pick - up as my daily car and kept the swift as a bit of fun / second car.

I then got bored of no practical on my Motorsports engineering course at uni and decided to convert the swift to a GTI. It took a while due to having to do it on my drive at uni so the weather got in the way and then the coursework and exams sat in the way. But its all done now bar a few niggles and with thanks to Andy for the help on certain parts.

Here are some pics.

The GS as my First car.

Unfortanetly no pics of me changing the chassis loom as i, well, forgot, apart from photos of the different connections all labled up. No photos swaping all the brakes over either.

And no photos of the finished car yet becasue i havnt taken em, will do that tomoz.

Sorry for all the pics and story at the beginning.

Cheers

Cheers for the comments guys.

I would have kept the glass but don't really have any room for keeping loads of bits. My dads already goin on at me for havin a spare bonnet set of alloys and a few other bits. Anything else just isn't worth the hassel.

The bumpers Wernt in good nik, the front had gouges in it and broken clips. And the back one had a very badley cut out for bigger exhaust.

The GTI shell was in crap condition, it had holes in the floor, the engine was alreay out of it and in the drivers footwell, most of the interior was missing and to be honest, I still wanted my first car lol.

Cheers

yer ive got the skirts waiting to go to the painters next week so dont worry them and the black strip will be sorted.

as for the exhaust i dont mind the look of it apart from it needs to sit alot further back into the car, so gotta get tht sorted at some point.

Bit of an update. I got the car back from the body shop just before christmas but only just got it back out of my workshop to clean and polish it up back to my liking.... for a body shop they really cant clean a car lol Laughing

anyway here are a few pics

The swift is kept in good company when not in use, a central heated workshop (warmer than the office) and surrounded by some of the nicer stock of my dads

there is an Mk 5 Golf R32 behind the S Type Very Happy and the swift has spent the whole christmas parked next to the XKR Very Happy

Cheers M8, yer the exhaust has got to be sorted, its starting to piss me off now. It sticks out far too far and tilts down for some reason.

Still gotta get my rear anti roll bar on, and then think about putting some money aside for the turbo Very Happy
