swift gti into a justy conversion

Post  subaruki on Wed Aug 25, 2010 9:49 pm

Hi all im a newby to this forum so be gentle cheers Smile
I am in the process of puting a gti engine in my 1998 justy and i have 2 questions at this time that i could use some help with,
first, on my AWD gearbox there is an non used actuator at the rear left side of the box, what is it for?
secondley, can i use the gti flywheel as the awd flywheel seems much thicker and heavier?
Thanks.

i think the answer to your first question is a switch for 4wd i think, but as you said it is not used so dont worry about it. Secondly you must use the awd flywheel, either get it lightened or buy a lightweight ally one from garndi

£300

The flywheel new from Aus is $635 delivered, plus import duties. So it works out it's a £362.52 for the flywheel delivered but then import duties will be 17.50 which is £63.44 so the total if you decided to get it yourself from Aus would be £425.44

my dad and i machined my flywheel down yesterday we got about 6.5 pounds off, could posibly get more off but i dont want to jepadise strength it ends up 1.5 pounds heavier than the gti one so its alot better than it was.

Thanks for the offer of the Alloy flywheel by Spackatron but my budget just wont strech to that at this time Sad

Does anyone know if i need to use the plate that goes between the gti engine and 4x4 gearbox ?

the reason i ask is because when i removed the justy engine it did not have this thin plate but ive seen other engines with them.

Hi,

That's good machining as you are only taking off material where it counts!

Good luck with conversions I hope you have all of wiring harnesses and ECU and so on.
It is a very good small AWD car with right mods, it will out run many modern cars!

Cheers
